The race of S. Antonio. On the day of 16 and 17 January, Pignola perpetuates the secular rite linked to the celebration of Sant’Antonio Abate. The celebration begins on the evening of the sixteenth when a huge bonfire is set on fire near the church of the saint. The “fanoia” is a circular fire pile that is blessed by the parish priest and burns all night long watched by devotees who linger in the warmth.
